Field Trip to National Geographic - 1001 Inventions


Gentlemen of A Form,

Now that you have returned from the field trip please let us know what parts of the exhibit you liked.

  1. The invention I found interesting was the crank where you turned the handle and a block moved back and forth.
    I would like to learn more about this crank, and I would like to observe its mechanics in more detail.

  2. I think the man used catgut to stitch up internal wounds and made many medical instruments we still us today was prett interesting. I would like to learn about the Chinese junk ships that were made by Zhang He. I would like to learn about the structure.

  3. Something that I really found interesting was the time- telling machine. It was so intricately crafted that if the ball went astray then the whole machine would not tell time correctly. This one ball was first put into water then raised out of it and onto a little slide. It next, came out of a dragons mouth and into a little bowl which then circled to the bottom and onto a flat surface. A man sitting next to the surface, would then see the ball and strike a gong signaling a new hour.


    I would like to learn more about all the Islamic doctors who used to use cat gut to stich up wounds. I found it very interesting that advanced doctors today still use that method.

  6. this field trip was very fun, and it taught me that the dark ages really werent very bad. i also learned that many things were invented in the islamic dark ages.

  13. My favorite exhibit was the exhibit of our moon that showed the different types of rocks that are named after various people. I would like to learn more about Al-Jazari, the inventor of the wheel and axle. (CB) Larocque
